Last month, Laurie spent time in Kansas City with our Partner Children of Homicide Victims at their 7th annual Gifts That Heal Christmas Party.

For children who have lost a parent to homicide, the holidays can be incredibly heavy. This gathering was created to give them something every child deserves: love, joy, faith, and a moment to simply be kids. It is about giving back to the children and reminding them that they are seen, supported, and not alone.

In this video, a grandmother shares her story of raising her son’s children after he was murdered. This is their second Christmas without their dad, and the first time they are truly trying to celebrate the holidays without him. Being surrounded by others who understand their pain made this moment especially meaningful. The kids were excited, connected, and able to experience the season in a way that felt safe and hopeful.

Moments like this matter. They make a real difference not only for these children, but for so many families walking a similar path.

A heartfelt thank you to our fans, donors, and supporters who helped make this day possible. This was a part of our special Christmas initiative, and was only possible because of people like you who donated. Because of you, these children were reminded that even in the hardest seasons, they’re deeply cared for. Click here to watch the video.
